Thonet
MUJI, in association with the German furniture maker THONET, has reinterpreted two historically important styles of furniture. The first is inspired by the curved wooden chair "No 14" (now called the 214), which was made in 1859 by THONET, the second is based on the tubular steel furniture created by members of the German school of design, Bauhaus, in the 1920s
BENTWOOD COLLECTION
THONET's wood curving techniques and fine craftsmanship create beautiful curved lines by exploiting the natural properties of the materials. The back of the chair features a horizontal panel that naturally supports the back. The seat of the chair is constructed using an easy-maintenance board or mesh.
TUBULAR STEEL COLLECTION
With its minimalistic construction and design, the cantilever chair was created with the image of "sitting on air" in mind; it not only looks light but when you sit on it you'll be amazed at the flexibility. The desktop is made of MDF board to simplify the colouring process. The cost has been kept low, and the methods used have been selected for their minimum impact on the environment.
