Inspired by a Czech Grandmother
The idea began with Grandma Růžena from the Czech Republic. Her hand-knitted socks, made for harsh winters, featured a 90-degree heel that fit snugly, stayed in place and offered remarkable comfort. MUJI wanted everyone to enjoy this perfect fit in everyday socks.
From Hand-Knit to Machine-Knit
Recreating the hand-knitted right-angle heel was a challenge. MUJI invited Grandma Růžena’s daughter to Japan, studied the technique, and after many trials, succeeded in translating it to machine knitting. The result: socks that hug the heel naturally and stay in place.
